Why RGB LED TVs Are NOT the Future: OLED vs RGB LED vs Mini-LED QLED (2026)

I recently had to eat my words and admit that my initial enthusiasm for RGB LED TVs was misplaced. After testing several RGB LED TVs this year, including the Hisense UR9, Samsung R95H, and Sony Bravia 9 II, I've uncovered some fundamental issues that might be inherent to the technology. While RGB LED TVs can produce impressive color ranges in lab tests, they fall short in real-world viewing scenarios. The compromise in backlighting, the phenomenon known as color bloom, and poor off-angle viewing performance make them less than ideal for a truly premium TV experience. In contrast, OLED TVs, with their pixel-level light control and consistent color accuracy, remain the gold standard for picture quality. Conventional mini-LED QLED TVs, as demonstrated by TCL's SQD-Mini LED models, can rival RGB LED in terms of brightness and color range, further solidifying OLED's position as the undisputed champion in picture quality.
